David Thompson was born on April 30 1770. He was a mapmaker, a surveyor, fur trader, and journal writer. He explored the western Canada and the U.S.A., North America. David Thompson measured the lenth of the Columbia River. He detailed the map of North America. In 1784 he started a job at Hudson's Bay Company. David Thompson explored Lake Athabasca in 1796. On Dec. 23, 1788 he fell down a riverbank and broke his leg. He had to stay at the hospital for three weeks and it took him a year to recover with crutches. David Thompson went to school at Grey Coat and did very well. His life ended on Feb 10 1857.
